This upcoming workshop, hosted by Kathryn Eland and Julia Sirois, is designed to strengthen your teamwork with your dog through thoughtfully designed search problems while building a deeper understanding of odor movement.
Each dog will work a variety of searches featuring complex odor puzzles and distractions to encourage independence, commitment to odor, and problem-solving skills. Search scenarios will be adjusted to each team’s experience level so every dog is able to be successful and strengthen their skills.
During the workshop, we will discuss odor movement - including how airflow, odor pooling, and different environmental factors may affect a search. Handlers will learn to better recognize changes in their dog's behavior, understand why dogs respond the way they do in challenging odor situations, and make better informed handling decisions. In addition to running your own dog, you will gain valuable experience watching other teams work similar problems. Observing other dogs allows you to develop a deeper understanding of where odor is present and how it is moving, as well as improve your ability to read canine body language to determine when a dog is working odor.
