About Us

KVK9 is named for Kathryn and Valkyrie, my Dutch Shepherd and certified Search & Rescue K9 partner. She represents the partnership and trust that sit at the center of everything I do.

I’m Kathryn Eland, a full-time K9 trainer at the Penn Vet Working Dog Center, where I prepare dogs for careers in Search & Rescue and Law Enforcement. I focus on developing confident and resilient dogs by strengthening engagement, building advanced obedience and agility skills, and introducing scent detection, while using structured, positive training to support confidence and reduce reactivity. Before that , I trained service dogs for Canine Companions for Independence. Through these roles, I’ve had a front row seat to the strength and life-changing power of the human-animal bond.

That bond is what drove me to start KVK9.

Through KVK9, I bring my working dog experience to help pet dogs and their families build clear communication, confidence, and trust. Whether we’re working on puppy foundations, house manners, obedience, nose work, or confidence building, my goal is always the same: create a safe learning environment where both ends of the leash feel heard and understood.

In addition to private training, I have experience teaching workshops and seminars for teams and handlers in areas such as low stress handling, advanced obedience, search development, scent work foundations, and confidence building. I enjoy working with clubs, sport groups, and professional teams who are looking to deepen their learning. If your organization is interested in hosting a workshop, please contact me to discuss customization and availability.
